When you get a colestrol test, you will get some numbers telling you how much colestrol is in your blood.
In general, if your total colestrol level is 200 or less, then that's good. However, if it's above 240 or 250, then you have high colestrol. If it's somehwere in between there, then you should try to lower it and check it again within a year.
LDL colestrol is actually the bad kind and you can find out specifically what the level of LDL is as well. Generally, you want this to be under 100. And if it's over 160 or so, then it's too high and you need to do something about it.
When you get tested, your doctor should discuss the numbers with you and tell what you need to do, if anything. But this will give you some basis for understanding.
