Herpies virus

The herpies virus that affects people is called herpies simplex virus, and there are two types. Herpies simplex type 1 is usually the virus that causes sores around the mouth. Herpies simplex type 2 is usually the virus that causes genital herpies, with lesions around the genitals. It's possible for other body parts to be infected as well, but it's not common.

There's also another herpies virus called herpies B, which is common in macaque monkeys, just like herpies simplex is in humans. Herpies B can also be transmitted to humans, and when it is it can often be fatal. However, you don't need to worry about that as long as you don't get bitten or scratched by a macaque monkey. Unfortunately, macaques can be kept as pets, and you can imagine that this is a big argument for that to be outlawed.
