Ulser is really a general term to refer to a lesion on the skins or a mucous membrane, perhaps with accompanying inflammation. However, for many people, the word only brings to mind ulsers of the stomach. These are called peptic ulcers, and they can actually be on the stomach or even part of the intestines.
