A stomach ulser is often called a peptic ulser or gastric ulser, and in many cases it isn't even in the stomach. They occur many times on part of the small intestine just past the stomach. Millions of people have them. It's been thought for ages that stress may be the main contributor to stomach ulsers, but a recent study has identified a bacteria that may be an important contributing factor. It's possible that the bacteria can instigiate the ulser, and if this is the case, then a better treatment may be coming in the near future.
