Cateract surgery is very safe and very effective these days. It's also very common, as you might expect since cateracts are very common as people age. However, surgery is surgery and there are always potential risks and complications. So you should explore every other possible treatment for cateracts before deciding on surgery, and only then after detailed consultation with a physician (preferably more than one).
