Normal Pressure Hydrocephalis, or NPH, is a form of hydrocephalis found in people over 50 60 years old. Excess fluid builds up in the vetricles of the brain, which puts pressure on the surrounding brain.
Common symptoms are dementia or poor memory and difficulty walking. These symptoms are very similar to those of alzheimers or parkinsons disease, so it's difficult to diagnose NPH.
The good news is that, unlike alzheimers and parkinsons, if NPH is diagnosed, then it can often be treated and the symptoms will largely, if not completely, go away. So if a loved one potentially has alsheimers or parkinsons, you can ask their doctor if it may be NPH instead.
