Sinusitus Treatment

For acute sinusitus, decongestants will often help relieve the congestion and it may be necessary to get a prescription pain killer to alleviate the facial pain. If the sinusitus is caused by an infection, then antibiotics will take care of that, otherwise it will probably go away on its own.
For chronic sinusitus, the treatment is more difficult. If there's an infection present, then antibiotics will be necessary to take of that, but in many cases infection may not be the cause. Decongestants and pain relievers can help with the symptoms. Steroid nasal sprays or even oral steroids will sometimes treat the cause, but they can also sometimes create other complications.
The symptoms of chronic sinusitus can sometimes be relieved with a facial steam or applying a hot washcloth over the sinuses.
In some cases of severe chronic sinusitus, surgery may be necessary.
