Since hemophelia is a disease that's present from birth, it's possible to identify it very early in infants, although it's not always easy.
During the first couple years, excessive bruising could be a sign of hemophelia. Infants may also bleed inside the mouth as a result of chewing on their lips or gums.
Bleeding into joints is another sign, but it can be difficult to recognize at first, especially in young children. The joint may get slightly puffy and sore to the touch. After a little while, it becomes painful to move the joint and it may be kept in a permanently awkward position. There probably won't be any permanent damage when this first happens, but it's important to recognize it soon to prevent prolonged bleeding time and time again.
