Cirhosis Treatment

How you treat cirhosis depends a lot on what has caused it. The most common cause of cirhosis is alcohol abuse. If this is the cause, then the most effective treatment is to stop drinking alcohol. This will stop any further damage.

Hepatitus is another major cause of cirhosis. In this case, the best treatment would be to treat the hepatitus so that it won't continue to damage the liver, usually using drugs.

If some other disease has caused the cirhosis, then the treatment will usually involve treating that disease. The most important goal is to stop any further liver damage, so you need to stop what's causing it.

If the liver is incapable of functioning, then the only treatment is a liver transplant. This is probably one of the most successful types of transplants.
