Mallaria is a remarkably common disease that is most prevalent in central Africa and south Asia. It has been estimated that hundreds of millions of cases of mallaria occur each year and that up to a million people may die from it.

Most people who are native high risk mallaria areas have some resistance to it and it won't be fatal to them so often. However, it's more dangerous to people who travel there from other parts of the world.

Mallaria is transmitted by mosquitos, so the best protection against mallaria is protection against mosquitos. Mallaria is actually caused by a parasite, but mosquitos carry the parasite.

Aside from keeping mosquitos off of you, there are also drugs that can be taken to prevent mallaria. Many people who travel to high risk regions will take the drugs during the time that they're there.
