This thread came up when I did a search on aol for Pertusis. I became ill 2 weeeks ago. Thought it was a cold, flu, etc. Most of my symptoms disappeared, except the cough. It's horrible. My husband finally convinced me to go to the Doc. Seen him yesterday and he said it was probably whooping cough. Had a small outbreak in my area last year and it's become common this year. My Doc said that so far this fall he's diagnosed an elementary school teacher, a daycare worker and countless others. He did not run a test on me but is treating me for whooping cough. Wasn't too worried about it since I've not been around any newborn infants. No one else in my household has become ill....have 3 kids aged 5, 13 and 16. However, this morning I realized that I was in contact with a Multiple Sclerosis patient approximately 5 days after my symptoms first appeared. I had a family emergency in another state. While there, a friend introduced me to a client he helps care for. This client is wheelchair bound, and only has limited use of his head and one arm and is on a breathing machine at night. I've been trying to contact this friend all morning and haven't had any success. I'm very worried. Does anyone have any idea how severe this could be for an MS patient?
