Pertusis is also known as whooping cough. While anyone can get it, it is most threatening to infants. Some infants receive vaccinations to help protect them from pertusis during the first year of their life. It's a combo vaccine called DTaP that also includes diptheria and tetanus. It's a series of 5 shots, the first being given about 2 months of age and the last about 5 years. During the early months of life is when pertusis is most dangerous.
