In many cases, there's no effective treatment for the cough. It will go away in time. But it's possible that another illness could develop during that time and that would need to be treated right away. It's important to stay in touch with your doctor during this time, especially with babies. Make sure they know about any changes so that they can address any complications that may arise. If you feel your doctor isn't being helpful enough, then try to find another one.
