Alzeimers disease

Alzeimers disease is such a problematic disease because it's so hard to tell exactly what happens to a person's mind. Of course, there are obvious things you can tell. For example, they can't remember events or people and they seem disoriented. But I'm curious what is still happening in their brain. What functionality is still there? What do they think about? They do things, so they must have some motivation for the things they do.
