Urinary track infection in women

The reason that women develop urinary track infections more than men is not known for certain. However, there are some proposed causes.
For one, the urethra is much shorter in women and that can allow bacteria into the bladder more easily. Also the urethral opening in women is much closer to the anus, which might provide more opportunities for bacteria to get into the urethra.
Sex can trigger it in part because the bacteria might actually be transferred during sex.
